Dave Paterson has been compiling and researching Scouting History and memorabilia for over 20 years. His dream is to get the massive piles of documents and accumulated artifacts organized and compiled into works that can be published and shared with fellow historical enthusiasts and collectors. Identifying and Collecting Patrol Insignia is his first completed project. His interests include the Councils, Camps, and Lodges of the New England States and anything related to Uniform Insignia.
An active member in Scouting for 45 years, Dave has been a Cub Scout, Webelos, Boy Scout, and a volunteer Scouter, obtaining the Arrow of Light, Eagle Scout with Bronze Palm, Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow, District Award of Merit, Scoutmaster Key, Scouter’s Training Award for Boy Scouts, Venturing, and Commissioning, Commissioner’s Arrowhead Honor, Commissioner Key, and adorns three Woodbadge beads. Dave has held registered adult positions as a Pack Committee Member, Webelos Den Leader, Assistant Scoutmaster, Troop Committee Member, Scoutmaster, Troop Committee Chairman, Associate Crew Advisor, District Committee Member, Unit Commissioner, and has also been an Associate Lodge Adviser. Dave is a Life Member of the National Eagle Scout Association and the International Scouting Collectors Association.
Dave’s Scouting background and experiences span across three Countries, thirteen States, five Councils, four Lodges, three Troops, three Packs, and one Crew. Highlights include Section Conclaves, ten weeks of summer camp, three International Camporees (each in a different country), three 50-milers, two white water rafting trips, and a glorious week at Disney World with his Boy Scout Troop.
“When I was 8 years old, I wanted to be a Cub Scout, but we lived in an area of Maine where there wasn’t a nearby Cub Pack. That fall we moved to Vermont where I became a Cub Scout in October. It’s been a whole lot of fun since then.”
